For 20 years our client has been a leader in their service sector across the country. They have recently established operations in the Washington DC market. This company is well funded, profitable, stable and is experiencing tremendous growth. They are looking for an experienced Operations Manager with an eye towards expansion and growth. With this growth will come greater responsibility and financial reward. This is a very entrepreneurial environment!

In this position you will:
Manage day-to-day operations of service center ensuring maximum on time service and resource production is achieved in accordance with safety and cost standards to include planning, assigning work, supervising and interfacing with all levels of the organization. You will be ultimately responsible in the assurance of customer satisfaction. Duties and Responsibilities to include:
-- Lead and develop company employees
-- Provide training and monitor employee performance.
-- Monitor and complete performance reviews for employees; coach/counsel all employees and I/C drivers on performance and development and document performance related material
-- Provide clear and frequent communication to all employees and I/C drivers on company policies and procedures, including but not limited to safety and security procedures
-- Coordinate and plan daily manpower needs to ensure customers’ shipments are picked up and delivered timely and damage free
-- Communicate with other service centers and dispatch to coordinate the movement of shipments and completion of jobs
-- Assist dispatchers as needed, i.e. assist customer needs, dispatch drivers, enter data into system, plan driver needs, etc. to achieve cut time goals and analyze all opportunities to reduce costs, improve efficiencies and solve problems
-- Manage the use of independent contractors in providing acceptable service practices and standards
-- Responsible for clean and safe working condition of facility and equipment
-- Assist customers as needed
-- Perform administrative functions as required
-- Ensure all required reports/spreadsheets, e.g. productivity reports, are completed and distributed in a timely manner
-- Participate in interviewing and hiring/promotions of employees; works with management and HR on actions, i.e. performance issues
-- Communicate with Sales to ensure customers’ and company’s needs are met
-- Conduct pre-shift meetings to include safety, performance and policy updates
-- Comply with all applicable laws/ DOT and OSHA regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
-- Plan for and achieve goals and objectives as assigned
-- Must be driven and demonstrate ownership of daily work performance and team functions
-- Performs a variety of tasks and must be able to multi-task
-- Works with little supervision

Qualifications and requirements for this position include:

-- Minimum four years of courier, LTL or transportation management experience
-- Effective communication skills (documentations, communications with peers, supervisors, etc.)
-- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
-- Extensive knowledge of transportation Industry, DOT Rules and Regulations, OSHA Laws, Hazardous Materials Regulations NMFC and Tariff Rules, company dispatch rules as well as company policies and procedures
-- Able to work independently and take initiative without immediate local supervision
-- Must be a ‘can do’ team player with the ability to make things happen
-- Multi-task oriented and possess good organizational skills
-- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet
-- Able to follow instructions and complete required training
-- Must be able to work flexible hours
-- Industry sales experience a plus
